2012- PRESENT Secured land to build 4 family housing units and expand vocational assessment . Expanding training options, provide certified (CNA), construction and soon robotics training while continuing to lease space to neighborhood business owners such as childcare and accounting agencies 2018-Completed development of 3 duplexes for seniors aged 62+, 2013 completed new construction of four senior one bedroom apartments, hosted hundreds of community workshops addressing racial profiling, public safety, foreclosure prevention, financial literacy, youth employment etc. Partners: HOME, YOU,NACD general revenue, KVCC, Bronson Hospital, Financial Institutions, Banks, Business Development Grants
2004-2011 In partnership with Downtown Kiwanis Club constructed a water playground for children to have a safe place to cool off in summer months. In 2008 coordinated Urban Garden Project that grew produce for distribution to nearby food banks, churches and community groups. 2004 Constructed 9,600 square foot building which included a commercial kitchen, community rooms, workforce development center and retail space. Partners: State Funds, CDBG, Foundations and MSHDA grants
1992-2003 Became certified as a Community Housing Development Organization -Provided general housing, education, employment and health related activities to residents. Rehabilitated six housing units and sold them to low income families. Developed 26,000 square foot neighborhood grocery store which now employs over 30 employees of which over 30% live in the neighborhood Partners: HOME, CDBG, MEDC and Community Grants and a one-million-dollar loan from LISC
1981-1992 Established as a 501 (c) (3) -Assisted homeowners in acquiring funds for repairs. Established summer youth programs. Offered HIV/AIDS prevention workshops, provided security deposits for rental units and hundreds of community related trainings.
